Nitrous Oxide Gas
Nitrous oxide (N2O), commonly known as “laughing gas,” is a colorless gas with a slightly sweet smell. It’s used medically as an anesthetic and analgesic, particularly in dentistry, and industrially as a propellant in whipped cream dispensers.
Uses
In medical settings, Nitrous Oxide Gas provides pain relief and sedation for short procedures. It’s also being researched as a potential treatment for depression. Industrially, it’s a propellant in whipped cream and an oxidizer in racing engines.
Effects
Recreationally, inhaling N2O causes euphoria, lightheadedness, and giggling due to its sedative and dissociative effects. However, inhaling pure gas without oxygen can lead to asphyxiation, cardiovascular failure, or neurological damage. Long-term misuse can deplete Vitamin B12, causing nerve damage, paralysis, and cognitive impairment.
